The Antidote is the creation of Herbert Friedman and is seen in ObsCure. It's the only known way to fight off the Mortifilia based infection. Its next step is the Mortifilia Supression Pills seen in ObsCure II.
The Antidote[]
Herbert Friedman had been working on an antidote for the side effects of the Mortifilia treatment since at least 1903[1], after Leonard started mutating due to prolonged exposure to the sunlight. By 2003[2], he had almost finished his work on the serum (although, since he had already been working on it for a century, it's hard to say exactly how long it would've been until it was fully completed, as something like 10 years could be considered a short time by Herbert's perspective).
Unfortunately, Walden, who was infected with the Mortifilia, shot Herbert with a gun, and he died shortly after, unable to finish his work and cure his brother.
It's relatively unknown to what extent the unfinished antidote works. Herbert claimed it wouldn't work on Walden because he had already started to mutate, yet, Walden didn't have many visible signs of mutation and the antidote was supposed to work with Leonard, who was basically a tree by that point. It does at least work for the Leafmore survivors, who injected it on themselves after killing Leonard, just as the sun was rising. They also have to take it in the form of pills regularly, which we see in ObsCure II.
Mortifillia Suppressant Pills[]
These pills are seen in ObsCure II. They seem to continue to suppress the Negative effects of the Mortifilia. However, Shannon Matthews, for unknown reasons, does not need them as her body has been able to somewhat adapt to the Mortifilia Spores, even allowing her to absorb them and maintain her humane appearance. Stan Jones and Kenny Matthews were taking these pills to keep themselves from mutating, but when Kenny ran out, and was unable to obtain anymore, mutating into a horrible creature. His mutation was also likely affected by the flowers he snorted at the start of the game.
Albeit not explicitly shown in the game, it can be assumed that Josh and Ashley also had to take pills to stop the mutation process.
Trivia[]
- A document written by Herbert explains that mutated subjects that were injected with the Antidote died due to stress, and that the stress had to be fixed before the cure could successfully work without killing a subject.
- However, the Antidote works on infected subjects that have yet to mutate, however they have to take the green, and yellow pills that will suppress their infection from reoccurring.
- A theory could be that the ΔΘГ brotherhood provided the pills to the Leafmore survivors, for they had studied the works of the Friedman and were the ones to cover up the entirety of the incident. They could have been disguised as government officials, since they were known to have connections with the government and the local police.
