Main Series[]
ObsCure[]
The first game in the series, released in 2004 by Hydravision Entertainment for the Playstation 2, Xbox and Windows. It supports 2 players cooperative play, and allows to choose your own characters, and features a perma-death system (if a character dies, they'll stay dead for the remainder of the game).
The game received Mixed to Positive Reviews from critics, holding a 66, 65 and 63 score on the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC versions of the game, respectively, on Metacritic.
This is mostly due to critics at the time having grown tired of the Survival Horror style of gameplay, now expecting games to be more action based, like the upcoming Resident Evil 4 (by comparison, the user scores are 8.4, 8.5 and 7.5).
It's believed that the game didn't sell as well as the publisher expected[citation needed], but still enough to warrant a sequel, which, although "mostly complete" by late 2005[1], wouldn't arrive until years later due to a problem with the publisher holding the series' rights.
One interesting thing to note is that the American version of the game was released a couple months after the European version, and featured multiple changes. The game was also later released on Steam in 2014, along with its sequel.
ObsCure II[]
Also known as ObsCure: The Aftermath in USA (and world-wide in the Wii and PSP versions), the game was released in 2007 by Hydravision entertainment for the PlayStation 2 and Windows, later in 2008 for the Wii, and finally in 2009 for the PSP.
Like the previous game, it also supports 2 players, although it's much more limited due to the game being more focused on the story. For most of the game, you're forced to play as two specific characters, and if any character dies, you get a Game Over and have to load a save game; the perma-death system was removed. The game received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, as a result of the game featuring numerous glitches, its gameplay being inferior to the first game's in many ways, and a general lack of polish.
Plus, by the time the game came out, the next generation consoles were already out. As the game originally only released on PlayStation 2 and PC, this likely hurt the sales quite a lot, and the aging engine looked quite lacking in comparison to games that were coming out at that time.
The game's critic scores on Metacritic are of 66, 60, 59 and 53 for the PSP, Ps2, PC and Wii, respectively. The user scores are generally more positive, with an 8.1, 8.6,7.0 and 8.3.
It is known that a lot of the game's content was changed or outright removed during development, likely due to a lack of funds and personnel.
Spin-offs[]
Final Exam[]
Final Exam is a spin-off game which takes in a different timeline (even tho it does have references to the original series, with Shannon and Herbert making a cameo in the game, and the fact that the game takes place in Fallcreek and the last level takes place in Leafmore) from the ObsCure series, and thus, it is considered Non-Canon.
The game was not very well received by fans, not only for being completely different to the previous games in the series, but also because the game didn't have much content and its gameplay was quite repetitive. The reality is that the game was a small project, made by the small team of the Hydravision employees who hadn't left the company yet, in hopes of being able to fund a proper sequel to ObsCure 2 with its sales. Unfortunately, the game didn't sell very well, and thus, Mighty Rocket Studio never released any other games and eventually, all of its members left and joined other teams.
